Another instance of MSNBC just making stuff up
People with a clue understand that the least professional news outlet is MSNBC. Here is another example of their slanting the news to fit their skewed perspective. In an article regarding the death penalty being awarded to a murderer and rapist who happened to be in the military they misinformed their audience regarding the history of the death penalty.
The death penalty was outlawed between 1972 and 1984, when President Reagan reinstated it.Sorry, folks but President Reagan did not reinstate the death penalty. The executive branch did not abolish nor restore the death penalty. The egomaniacs in black robes we refer to as the Supreme Court decided in 1972 in the case of Furman v. State of Georgia that the death penalty was somehow cruel and unusual. In 1976 the Supreme Court changed their mind. I'm not sure if they decided it was more usual or less cruel than a few years previous. However, either way I doubt that Reagan was too involved.

Ooops, looks like MSNBC got it right and you got it wrong:
"In 1983, the Armed Forces Court of Appeals held in U.S. v. Matthews, 16 M.J. 354, that military capital sentencing procedures were unconstitutional for failing to require a finding of individualized aggravating circumstances. In 1984, the death penalty was reinstated when President Ronald Reagan signed an executive order adopting detailed rules for capital courts-martial. Among the rules was a list of 11 aggravating factors that qualify defendants for death sentences." (Source)
It took me a whopping five minutes on Google to research this and confirm that it was not just the black robes of the Supremem Court but the uniformed officers of the JAG Corp that concluded that the military's death penalty provisions was unconstitutional. And it WAS President Reagan who reinstated the military's death penalty by executive order.
Do you even research issues before you spout off on them? I would expect that a correction is in order.
