Fr. Andrew Greeley Should be Defrocked

While I'm a defender of priests in general and deplore how because of the misbehavior of a few deviants all priests are mocked by late night comedians as pedophiles. Having said that, here is an example of a priest I can not defend. In the Chicago Sun-Times, Fr. Andrew Greeley writes a regular column. His most recent column makes indefensible and unfounded claims of racism against Gov. Palin and Sen. McCain.
McCain increasingly acts like an angry, befuddled cancer survivor and treats his rival like a field n----- who is just barely human. He does not talk to him, will not shake hands with him, will not even look at him,
Beyond disgusting. As bad as the ugly nature of the accusation is the dishonesty of Greeley in his description of Sen. McCain towards his opponent Sen. Obama. This creep is supposed to be a Catholic priest and here he is giving false witness against his fellow man. Millions of Americans have seen Sen. McCain shake Sen. Obama's hand before each debate and then proceed to treat him with respect. Greeley's behavior is every bit as embarrassing to the church as any of the other scandals. Some could argue his is worse in that while the others committed evil in private he deliberately committed his in a public forum. I'm not one to argue the degree of sins. I'll just say Greeley needs to reassess his hateful ways before he can be respected as a Catholic priest again.

Hey, you over there! If you don't vote for my guy you're racist!

Author and erstwhile Catholic priest Andrew Greeley has a column in the Chicago Sun-Times that uses a lot of words to make the case that people who don't vote for Greeley's preferred candidate, Sen. Barack Obama, are most likely basing their decision on race. What BS! Maybe Greeley is basing his decision on race, but it is BS for him to assume others think like he does. That would be like my declaring that Greeley is supporting Obama mainly because of the candidates extreme pro-abortion position instead of because Greeley is a long time Democrat who believes government social programs should provide the answer to all our problems. Likewise, Greeley should accept that some folks will vote for Obama's opponent, Sen McCain, because he believes in a more limited role of the government in our lives. Or some feel McCain has a better grasp of foreign affairs. Some understand that Obama will hurt the economy with massive tax hikes. Others yet, based on Obama's past associations, strongly feel he does not have the judgment to serve as commander in chief. None of those positions are intrinsically tied to his mixed race heritage.

Regardless of how stupid Greeley's assertion is, get ready for a steady stream of similar columns. They aren't trying to influence the intelligent voter anyways. They are hoping to play on lingering white guilt to elect an unqualified candidate. Sadly, it might work.
