Breaking News: Justice Souter to Retire

Another good riddance situation.

NPR has learned that Supreme Court Justice David Souter is planning to retire at the end of the current court term.

The vacancy will give President Obama his first chance to name a member of the high court and begin to shape its future direction.

While Souter has been a disappointment since he was appointed by President George H.W. Bush, we can be sure that his replacement will be much worse. The greatest and most lasting damage from last November's election will be the re-shaping of the federal judiciary. I expect President Obama will get to replace at least 3 supreme court justices (Souter, Stevens, Kennedy and Ginsberg) and a whole bunch of lower court judges.

Specter First Casualty of the Stimulus Fallout???

One aspect of Sen. Specter's decision to switch parties that has not been noted yet is he was one of the "Republican" votes that allowed the massive pork filled crap-sandwich called a stimulus bill to pass. His decision to switch was obviously prompted out of fear of losing a primary battle to Pat Toomey who is a strong fiscal conservative who was emphasizing Specter's complicity in that awful waste filled legislation. I don't think it is an automatic done deal that Specter will win the Dem nomination and if he does he'll still face a tough general election and you can be sure he will be hammered over that particular vote.

Breaking News: Senator Specter Switching Political Affiliation

In somewhat surprising news, longtime liberal Republican Senator Arlen Specter is apparently switching to the Democrat party. The move, which simultaneously raises the average intelligence and integrity of both major political parties, is believed to be because of an anticipated strong primary challenge.

Good riddance! Specter was never really much of a Republican and likely became one for political expediency so it is rather appropriate that he leaves the party out of political expediency. I'm sure his statement will make some BS case about the party changing and him feeling more at home with the Democrats. However, truth is he has a better chance in the Democrat primary and switching parties allows him to make the argument to voters that he will have more power in representing them since the Dems hold a large majority of senate seats.

What if Bush had . . . . . . ? #5

What would the media outcry have been if President Bush had nominated anyone as misinformed and politically obtuse as Janet Napolitano to his cabinet? A week ago we got word that she offended veterans by alluding to them as potential terror threats. Now, we hear that in order to defend the open borders "policy" towards our southern border she made the claim that most terrorists including the 9/11 terrorists entered our country through Canada. That would not be a compelling argument if true, but it is even less compelling since it is obviously false. So, instead of a compelling argument it is an unnecessary insult to an ally.

I realize it hard to find Democrats who have paid their taxes, but President Obama should have been able to do better than this amateur.

Earth Day - Lenin Birthday

I intended to draft a post today commenting on the coincidence of Earth Day and Lenin's Birthday both being celebrated on 22 April. Turns out someone beat me to it and expressed the thoughts I had much more clearly. Here's the link.

What if Bush had . . . . . . ? #4

The other day President Obama was attending a conference called the Trinidad Summit of the Americas. During this summit the various Latin American dictators and presidents make speeches. Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega gave an hour long diatribe mostly denouncing U.S. and European interference in South America. During his speech Ortega included a ridiculous complaint about the attempted invasion of Cuba in 1961 called the Bay of Pigs. Later when asked about the comments Obama said:

"I'm grateful that President Ortega did not blame me for things that happened when I was three months old,"

Could anyone imagine President Bush making a similar statement to the Japanese Prime Minister regarding the bombings of Nagasaki and Hiroshima? "Hey, don't blame me I wasn't born until a couple years after Truman dropped the bomb." If Bush had made such a foolish and self-serving comment, how do you think it would have been reported by the media? What this inexperienced naif playing president doesn't understand is he is not at the summit representing Barack Obama. No, as president, he represents the United States of America. He is still worried about what people think of him personally when he should be concerned with nations respecting us or US.

Separately, his comments about only being three months old at the time, in order to avoid ownership of the past, is strangely similar to his claims during the campaign of only being eight years old when his pal Bill Ayers was blowing up police stations and fomenting revolution. It had no bearing on his decision as an adult to freely associate with scum like Ayers. However, it worked to get the uninterested media to drop the subject.

The Cabinet is the Tip of the Iceberg

Many have correctly criticized the Obama Administration over the choices for Cabinet and other high level positions requiring Senate confirmation. Based on his history of poor judgment regarding people to associate with, Obama has unsurprisingly staffed his Cabinet with all sorts of anti-Americans, socialists, tax cheats, perjurers, and other reprobates you wouldn't trust to watch your pets if you went out of town for a few days. However, the real long term damage to our country will be done by the hundreds of mid-level positions they will fill in the various government departments and regulatory agencies. Here is one example of the type of questionable hiring we can can expect to see a lot of over the next four years.

She believes al-Qaida was an "obscure group" turned into a massive threat due to U.S. policies.

She's referred to former President Bush as "our torturer in chief" and a "psychotic who need(s) treatment" while comparing Bush's arguments for waging a war on terrorism to Adolf Hitler's use of political propaganda.

She's worked on behalf of George Soros' philanthropic foundation.

Meet Rosa Brooks, the Obama administration's new adviser to Michelle Fluornoy, the undersecretary of defense for policy, a position described as one of the most influential in the Pentagon.

"I prefer to think of (my new position) as my personal government bailout," Brooks wrote in a departing piece at the Los Angeles Times, where she served as a regular columnist.

The attitude demonstrated by the comments bolded at the bottom is reason enough to want to see someone kick her teeth in. When you hear about oddballs like Brooks, keep in mind that she doesn't stand out in this administration but rather fits in nicely.

Classic Failure: Baseball Version

In yesterday's game against the Florida Marlins, the Washington Nationals had a couple of players wearing uniforms with the team's name misspelled. I guess they didn't want the politicians to feel they were the only screw ups in town.
