Call Your Congressman!

Do you have five minutes? Everybody has a few minutes to spare. Take the time to call your representative in DC. Never forget that they work for you. Doesn't matter how high and mighty they appear they still are your employee. If someone works for you then you have an obligation to occasionally give them direction and feedback.

I called my representative's office this morning and gave them my two cents on three matters that were bugging me and was able to look up the number, get through to a live voice, and get things off my chest in less than five minutes. The trick is know what you want to say. Write a couple notes and keep to your script so you don't ramble. Tell them the problem or your concern and what you'd like done.

The three things I complained about today:
1. Ridiculous & convoluted tax system. Simplify it! Give us a flat tax or national sales tax.
2. Eric Holder, the Attorney General made a blatantly racist statement this week in explaining why the Justice Department won't enforce the law evenly while he is in office. I want him to resign or be fired. My congressman can't make that happen, but he can call for it.
3. The Navy announced that a warship will be named for John Murtha, the late crooked congressman from Pennsylvania. Besides being a worthless crooked politician, in 2006 Murtha maliciously without facts accused Marines in combat of committing cold blooded murder. Nothing any more important than a latrine should be named for that wretched fool.

Will my congressman (Rep. John Boehner) fix those problems? Probably not. However, at least he knows a constituent is concerned about those issues. What he does will let me know if he listens to his constituents.

If your representative hears similar complaints from lots of constituents they are more likely to take action.

Breaking News: Rep. John Murtha Died

Suddenly the U.S. House of Representatives is slightly less corrupt.

Coincidence? I think not.

Not to dance at the man's passing, but he (as well as the voters who continued to vote him back into office) exemplified everything that is wrong with our political process.

Endorsement for Pennsylvania's 12th District

I endorse Bill Russell to serve as U.S. Representative from Pennsylvania's 12th District. Russell is a combat veteran and a retired Army Lieutenant Colonel. Russell is a sharp individual and a staunch conservative. However, it is equally important who he would replace in Congress - Rep. Jack "My Constituents are Racist Rednecks" Murtha (D-PA). A corrupt politician, Murtha has been embarrassing his district and our country for decades. During the 1970's he was caught on tape by the FBI negotiating bribes during the ABSCAM scandal. Since the 70's he has been wasting government money on various pork barrel spending projects in his home district ensuring his reelection. In recent years Murtha, a rare EX-Marine, slandered our troops by declaring they had murdered Iraqi men, women and children in cold blood before the investigation was completed. Add it all up and he must go. If the people of Pennsylvania have any pride whatsoever he will lose big tomorrow.

Most important election

The most important election this cycle (except the presidential race) is the one Bill Russell is running to unseat the disgusting and corrupt representative of Pennsylvania's 12 congressional district. I'm, of course, referring to Rep. John Murtha. Murtha has been embarrassing his constituents for decades in congress, but they kept returning him to Washington because he was very good at bringing wasteful federal spending back to his district. For a long time he went with little or no opposition. However, his disgusting behavior in declaring our Marines guilty of cold blooded murder before any evidence was seen made him seem vulnerable. In 2006 he had a serious challenger. It didn't matter as his constituents chose pork over honor. This year, Murtha is being challenged by Bill Russell, a Desert Storm veteran, former Army lieutenant colonel and Army reservist who survived the Sept. 11 terrorist attack on the Pentagon. A couple months ago I assumed Murtha would again survive the challenge and be sent back to waste more money. Then something surprising happened, in a misguided attempt to "help" Sen. Obama in the presidential race, Murtha recently declared folks in his district are mostly racist rednecks. I don't know about any of y'all, but I ain't likely to vote for someone who calls me names and hopefully folks in Pennsylvania's 12 District also have at least that much pride.
